Kindergarten Program

Children are exposed to a full kindergarten program. Upper and lower case letter identification, letter sounds, proper letter formation, counting to 20, subitizing to 6, holding a pencil, shapes and colour identification, using scissors, attempts to print name, name recognition, recognize and produce rhyming words, classify and sort objects, identify matches and opposites, know the parts of a book and interact with one. Children are introduced to the days of the week and the months of the year and are encouraged to recite their name/birthdate/address.

At Green Sprouts we offer two meals over the typical snack/lunch/snack. Meal times begin around 10:15 and 2:00 daily and the children are given 30-40 minutes to eat during meal times. All food groups are served at each meal. Infants adjusting to daycare are fed on demand until they are in sync with the daycare routine. There is always room for flexibility and at times we do eat three or more times depending on outings, routine and level of physical activity. At Green Sprouts, I like to be creative in the kitchen and not adhere to a strict menu. I prefer to base the day’s meals off of what supplies I have on hand, the weather, season and the children’s requests. In order to offer maximum variety and freshness to a small group flexibility is needed to ensure all foods are served when they are fresh and ripe. Parents are provided with a sample menu of all the foods/meals that may be served. The day's menu is posted in the front entrance on top of the cubbies.
